British Pakistan Foundation Condemns Alarming Rise in Islamophobic Hate Crimes in the UK
The British Pakistan Foundation strongly condemn the recent surge in Islamophobic hate crimes and attacks against Muslim communities in the UK. These acts of violence, harassment, and discrimination have no place in a civilized society, aren’t in line with the British values we hold dear and must be unequivocally rejected.
Since October 7th, there has been an alarming 600% increase in Islamophobic incidents compared to the same period last year. Tell MAMA, a charity monitoring anti-Muslim hate crimes, has documented 2,010 Islamophobic incidents in just four months – more than triple the previous year’s figure. These include physical assaults, abusive behaviour, threats, and vandalism targeting Muslims, with Muslim women being disproportionately affected. Such hateful actions not only violate the basic rights and dignity of British Muslims but also threaten the fabric of the UK’s diverse and inclusive society.
We urge political leaders and public figures to promote unity, mutual understanding, and respect among all communities. We urge law enforcement to thoroughly investigate these hate crimes and bring perpetrators to justice.
Additionally, we call on all citizens to stand in solidarity with their Muslim neighbours, report incidents of hate, and work together to combat Islamophobia in all its forms. Only through collective action can we build a society free from bigotry and discrimination.
