British Pakistan Foundation Celebrates Historic Election Victory: 15 MPs of Pakistani Origin Elected to UK Parliament

The British Pakistan Foundation (BPF) is thrilled to announce the remarkable achievement of electing 15 Members of Parliament of Pakistani origin in the recent UK General Election. This significant milestone marks a new chapter in the political landscape of Britain, showcasing the increasing influence and representation of the British Pakistani community in national governance.

The Labour Party’s success in the election has been instrumental in this achievement. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Afzal Khan, Imran Hussain, Naz Shah, Yasmin Qureshi, Muhammad Yasin, Tahir Ali, Shabana Mahmood, Zarah Sultana, Dr. Zubir Ahmed, Naushabah Khan, and Dr. Rosena Allin-Khan for their victories under the Labour banner. Additionally, we celebrate the independent triumphs of Ayoub Khan and Adnan Hussain, as well as the Conservative wins by Saqib Bhatti and Nusrat Ghani.

The inclusion of these 15 MPs underscores the growing diversity within the UK Parliament, reflecting a broader commitment to multicultural representation. This achievement is particularly notable as it contributes to the record number of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) lawmakers, who now make up approximately 13% of the House of Commons.

The BPF is also proud to highlight the historic achievement of having a record 242 female lawmakers in the incoming parliament, furthering the cause of gender equality and empowerment.

As we celebrate these achievements, the British Pakistan Foundation reaffirms its commitment to supporting and empowering the British Pakistani community. We look forward to working with our newly elected representatives to address the needs and aspirations of our community and to contribute positively to the broader British society.

In this moment of celebration, we also reflect on the profound words of outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who stated, “One of the most remarkable things about Britain is just how unremarkable it is that two generations after my grandparents came here with little, I could become prime minister.” These words serve as a testament to the opportunities that lie within our diverse nation.

The British Pakistan Foundation extends its warmest congratulations to all elected MPs and expresses its eagerness to collaborate on initiatives that promote inclusivity, representation, and community development.
